The moves to publicise the dangers of buying a puppy farmed dog are to be warmly welcomed. In the UK the Kennel Club has had a bashing - and I do think that unscrupulous breeding, whether of KC registered dogs or in the squalor of a puppy farm should be exposed. BUT if you discredit KC registered dogs, how are people to know who to trust and who not to? The only answer is to get as much information out there about how to spot a good breeder, and how to recognise a "baddun".
Marc Abraham is on television tonight talking about this issue, here's more detail:
Puppy Farm Awareness Day is a terrific idea. If we can establish in enough minds that puppy farms are evil, and definitely not the right place to buy a dog from, perhaps they will finally go out of business. It's on 19th September this year, and to celebrate ThePet.net are throwing a party:

ThePet.net gave out their Pet Friendly awards at the Ultimate Pet Show at the weekend. One of the surprise findings of the awards is that the West Midlands is the pet friendliest area in the UK. No surprise to us Midlanders of course, we already knew we're a friendly bunch! Good to know there are so many venues that welcome your dog. Hope they all get lots more dog owning customers now.

Do you have a favourite pet friendly business? If so you could nominate them for an award with ThePet.net. The winners will be announced at The Ultimate Pet Show at the NEC in May. I've only just discovered The Ultimate Pet Show, and it looks like a great day out for pet lovers. If you think you have Britain's Most Talented Pet (doesn't have to be a dog) you can enter them into a competition. I'd love to see some Shire Horses entered into that one!
