Four year old tiny Cricket the nervous Chihuahua has finally overcome his fears and found a loving home of his own just in time for a summer of runs with the Ashes cricket series.
Cricket was so nervous of new people and new situations when he came into Battersea that staff at the Brands Hatch centre were worried he wouldn’t come out of his shell and find his perfect match.
Animal charity Battersea Dogs & Cats Home says it has seen a 40 per cent increase in the number of ‘handbag’ dogs coming through its doors this year, with many suffering from behavioural issues after being mollycoddled by their owners.
Yorkshire Terriers were the most popular small breed needing Battersea’s attention, with over 90 already coming into the Home so far this year, compared to 54 the year before – a 67 per cent increase. Chihuahuas are also an increasingly popular breed at Battersea, with a 36 per cent increase coming into Battersea since last year.
You can find out more about Bobby’s story in Battersea’s new ITV1 series Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs on Monday nights at 8pm.

Hello I was just wondering if you could put an advert through your show please? I lost my Chihuahua dog "pip" when he ran out of my house on Monday. We are from Norton-on-tees but by now he could be anywhere in Stockton-on-tees. He is 8 months old and did not have his collar on but he was wearing a black "007" dog tshirt. His coat is a tan colour.
Please could you ask anyone with any information to contact us at 01642 892762.
I haven't posted since Friday because Jenny and I spent the weekend stuck in bed with a horrible cough and really high temperatures. It was a real pain; we had to cancel a long anticipated family outing, as well as some quite important dog training. All the weekends when we had nothing planned when it wouldn't have mattered, and we had to be laid low this particular weekend. Ah well, worse things happen I know. I hope your weekend went well.
Anyway, Episode 81 of DogCast Radio is now available with two smashing interviews.
