This is a video about the Alternative Animal Sanctuary. The Sanctuary houses dogs, horses, rabbits, terrapins, goats, geese, and many other animals and birds.
The Alternative Animal Sanctuary, run by Tamara Lloyd, gives many animals their last chance of a happy life. Dogs and horses - some of whom were considered too aggressive to live - have been given the time and space to reveal their true natures at the sanctuary. Others have received medical treatment that almost anyone but Tamara would have thought too expensive and too much trouble. When the rest of the world gives up, Tamara carries on. Helga the German Shepherd cross is a dog who would have been dead without Tamara's love and determination.
Helga had a bad start in life, was rescued by a neighbour who couldn't cope with her and Tamara rescued her. Just as Helga was settling in, a crippling illness hit her. Tamara gave her the chance to live, when conventional wisdom might have been to let her go. It was touch and go, but Helga and Tamara fought through together - and today Helga lives a happy fulfilled life. Neither Helga herself, nor the rest of her canine pack make any concession to her injuries. Slowly and erratically Helga seems to be regaining control of her back legs. Whatever the future holds for Helga, one thing is sure - Tamara will be there for her.
The Alternative Animal Sanctuary is a testament to her attitude - her dogs, horses, and many other animal species live in peace together. Even rabbits abandoned by their owners as they could not live with other rabbits seem to find their place at the Sanctuary.
