R.I.P. Schmeicel - coping with dog loss

I've just got off the phone with Marc Abraham and Tony Livesey on Radio 5 Live
talking about dog loss and euthanasia. It was a feature inspired by the storyline in recent episodes of Coronation Street where poor Chesney has been torn between trying to get vet treatment for his terminally ill dog and paying his rent. Last night Schmeichel the Great Dane was finally put to sleep in very emotional scenes, and apparently the nation has been pouring their upset out on Twitter.

Do you know how to complain about a vet?

Have you ever had to complain about your vet? Would you know who to complain to? Are you aware of what disciplinary procedures exist? Please help the Bella Moss Foundation and take a couple of minutes to answer the four questions below. You can email you answers direct to the Bella Moss Foundation at info@thebellamossfoundation.com or email me at Julie@DogCastRadio.com and I will forward it to Jill.

Nick Jones' Dog Behaviour Questionairre

Nick Jones has been a guest on DogCast Radio several times and will be in our October show discussing the subject of dogs on beds.

He is currently studying for his masters degree and would appreciate some help. If you have five minutes to read through some material and give some feedback visit this blogpost from Nick. As Nick points out there are no wrong or right answers, and you may well learn something along the way.

So are you an owner or a guardian? (and does it really matter?)

I've been sent this email from a campaign that wants us to refer to ourselves as "guardians" rather than "owners". Now I'm not entirely in agreement with this campaign but I thought I'd post this to see what other people's reactions were. I know that in the US the word guardian, as opposed to owner, has gained popularity, but this is the first big push for such a move in the UK. My attitude is that I don't actually care what people call themselves as long as they meet their dog's needs and give them a good life.
